Search Reputation Management
You Google your name or your business name one day and find that the top results don’t exactly paint you in a great light. Maybe it’s an old heated forum argument gone wrong from years ago or a bad review that fails to die, or just something potentially embarrassing – it’s never fun to find out that what people are finding about you when they search on Google or another major search engine isn’t exactly something you’re proud of.
It would be great if we could just go to Google and tell them to remove a piece of content from their index. Unfortunately it’s not that easy. Even if a particular page which is coming up in the top search engine results talks negatively about you illegally, the process of getting that page out of the index takes forever and a day and more often than not Google has the power to just deem it acceptable. This isn’t Google’s fault per se – it’s their job to stay neutral and not manipulate search results in anyone’s favour. But it doesn’t really help you much in terms of managing your online reputation, does it?
The only real solution to this problem is to push the negative page down as far as possible in Google’s search results. We do this by creating new content about you that ranks higher than the offending page (or pages). There is a lot of search engine optimisation and creation of various hubs of information you do want people to see about you involved in this process. In the end when people search for you, they see information that you can feel confident about and the unwanted results all but disappear from sight.
