SEO FAQ

What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. This is the process of modifying a website’s code and content as well as building backlinks to the website to improve its search engine rankings for targeted keywords in organic search results. So that the next time someone searches for “Perth home builders” on Google, your website will come up towards the top of the list.

What are organic search results?
Google and other major search engines have two different types of search results on their result pages: organic results and paid results (known as “AdWords” in Google). If you search for something on Google, have a look at the sections (up to two per page) of links with the small “Ads” label above them in gray text. These are found on the right hand side and at the top of the page (right under the search bar).

Do I need SEO?
Most websites can benefit from an SEO campaign. However, there are exceptions. If you’re not sure whether your business can benefit from SEO, feel free to contact me to find out. And no, I don’t sell for the sake of selling. If your website is not a good fit for an SEO campaign, I will say so upfront.

How long does it take to see SEO results?
SEO is not a quick fix solution. It is a long term, ongoing effort. Here at Techalite I focus on white-hat SEO solutions to build solid rankings over time. Depending on your industry and competition, I usually recommend between 6 and 12 months commitment to an SEO campaign (in rare cases, 3 months can be sufficient).

Can you guarantee rankings?
Techalite does not guarantee certain search engine rankings. We do not own or control Google, we simply work with Google’s algorithm to encourage it to rank certain websites higher for particular terms. Google changes its algorithm on an ongoing basis. Google itself has the following to say on the matter of guaranteeing rankings:
“Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings, allege a ‘special relationship’ with Google, or advertise a “priority submit” to Google. There is no priority submit for Google.”

What is whitehat and blackhat SEO?
Whitehat SEO techniques comply with Google’s terms and conditions. Blackhat SEO techniques go against Google’s terms and conditions.
While blackhat SEO techniques can sometimes achieve high rankings faster than white-hat techniques by essentially scamming the search engines, these websites are also “hunted down” and punished by Google on a regular basis. The penalty can include decreased rankings or even being removed from the search engine’s index completely. Once a penalty has been implemented, it can be extremely difficult (sometimes near impossible) to scrape out of the barrel and get your website back into the search results.
Blackhat SEO techniques have their place for certain webmasters, such as website “flippers” who want to make quick cash from their site over a couple of weeks or months (or however long it takes for Google to catch them) and once it gets penalized move on to the next website, and so on. For business websites that are created to display your brand and advertise your business, blackhat techniques are far too risky and whitehat SEO will carry you further in the long term.
